Blue Post on Spec Specific Bad Luck Protection

Bad luck protection gains only for loot spec or any spec?

    Hi there!

If i do a Nighthold hc clear with my lootspec set to assassination, and switch to outlaw, does the NH hc clear also push my outlaw spec BLP?

So its possible to switch lootspecs for relics without loosing BLP gains for the mainspec?

Legendary bad luck protection is tied to a specialization. In other words, if you have 18% bad luck protection in Assassination, and then you switch to Outlaw, you would have 0% bad luck protection, assuming you've never played Outlaw (but you would still have 18% in Assassination.) It's meant to be this way so if you get a legendary for Assassination, it won't affect your chances at a legendary in Outlaw.

    hes asking if it gains

    @op

when you do something, all specs BLP goes up, but getting a legendary will make that specs BLP drop (All specs if it is spec wide like sephus)

This is false. In 7.2, legendary bad luck protection was changed to a per-spec system. In 7.2.5, they're changing the system, such that you can stay Assassination, and once you get all of the Assassination legendaries the system will begin dropping Outlaw or Subtlety legendaries. If you use retribution paladins as an example, if they have all of the legendaries for their specialization, then they have legendaries like Prydaz and Sephuz - all of which are functional across all three specializations. Obtaining that legendary in retribution won't affect your chance of obtaining a legendary for Protection or Holy.

First they already have a system in place if you're full legendaries. If you have the 10 for that spec and stay that spec, the 11th one is for the spec weapon with the highest amount of artifact power. If you have no other weapon I imagine it's just random.

I don't believe there is individual BLP per spec (and if there is, then its as someone suggested and it all goes up regardless of current spec when you do content ... otherwise that would penalize people who switch specs constantly and never get a legendary because their BLP would be kept low).

The only thing blizzard has stated is your first two legendaries for a spec have an increased chance to drop, whether its shared or spec specific.

Blizzard has been as clear as mud on this topic. Sadly there is no way to know for sure due to the nature of these rng systems. I do understand them not wanting to give us specific numbers so they can tweak them more freely without having people blow a gasket. They could be much less vague though.

Legendary drop rates are at a flat chance, yes, but a drop in one specialization is unaffected by a drop in a different specialization. My information comes from the latest interview between Ion and Josh. - - - Updated - - -

I was more-or-less commenting on the last part of your post - the part that references spec-wide legendaries like Sephuz and Aggramar's Stride.

Entirely anecdotal so take it with a grain of salt. I received 2 legendaries on the same character on the same day in less than 15 minutes of play time. I received a holy legendary after killing a world boss (the broken shore bonus world boss), logged out to get some food, logged in and swapped to disc to run lfr and immediately (first boss kill) received a legendary for disc. People in my guild freaked a bit. These were off specs for that toon, it was my first holy legendary and my second disc legendary.

I've looked for clarification on this issue from Blizzard and I haven't found anything conclusive either way. The response on the Q&A didn't really answer it. It explained an alternative method of assigning a legendary in the case that a spec had all of them (which meant that all the other specs had the universal legendaries so it wouldn't be the first or second one for those specs either). But nothing I've read or watched has stated explicitly that bad luck protection is or isn't per spec. Based on what happened to me on the 27th, either I got ridiculously lucky or it's by spec.

Unless it is a drop that is shared between all specs such as the the Neck or Helm. That will count for all 3.

You guys are not being very clear either.
    1. Does BLP accumulate for each loot spec? E.g. if i do WQ does it keep building up independently? like my outlaw has 5% and muti has 7%
    2. If it does, resetting it on the unispec legendary drop would be pretty dumb and unfair as it would punish people who play 4 hours on each spec of the 2 specs vs those who play 8 hours on one spec as they will be getting drops almost twice less often.

I received a holy legendary after killing a world boss (the broken shore bonus world boss), logged out to get some food, logged in and swapped to disc to run lfr and immediately (first boss kill) received a legendary for disc.

Unfortunately that is not very representative. My friend did 2 battlegrounds the other week as affliction and got 2 legendaries back to back.
